Pales Power Rankings #1. The Thomahawk StoeyJopa - Jelly - Figo Duckbutter/Frangu - Gyneman The Thomahawk Right Bench: 37 Thomas Billings in I think his 3rd shot as a captain? Might be 4th, came out and made a really solid squad for himself. He picked up Figo early for a lot of money. Grabbed Joe Sto for what will probably turn out to be a steal at 6 dollars, and got Jelly next to round out a group of 3 forwards all familiar with eachother. I really like the forwards, if I were to be critical of anything up front, its that Jelly really isn't a true center. For this team to take everything he's going to need to turn the dial to 11 on defensive awareness and really focus on that aspect of the game, because Figo and Joe Sto aren't defensive stalwarts themselves. Luckily he also was able to form a pretty good defensive front in front of himself as well. Gyneman is new to the league, a BLK recruitee, BLK prior to the draft called this man "somewhere between a 3rd and 5th round defensemen that can move the puck" (Probably better than that). On the other side, Duckbutter is a good d man who happens to be part time, but Thomahawk goes out and finds Frangu, Figos Brother-in-law who honestly would have been an upgrade for most other teams here. Thomahawk also had a great draft strategy, recognizing how thin goaltending was, and seeing a captain who I assume many others thought would be a goalie for his team himself grab BCripps off the top, bid up a lot of the goalies in the draft, and even took another option away from people by taking 37. Now that said, there have been rumblings that Thomahawk may be looking to play out at some points in the year and put 37 in net. Who he replaces in this lineup I have no idea. But let me just give some friendly advice, Thomahawk, please, for the love of god. You built a good roster around you. Play your best position. It's Net. #2. P4LE PWNR A9entx007/Barzal 13 - Pale - McLucas22 xDLxBrickcityNJ - MasterShotgun/BlueLiner Shock Bench: TBD I went after my boy brick, finally, again for the first time in 10 seasons in the league. And I got him. He was immediately unhappy with everything I did in the draft from then on. I picked up McLucas, former Rocket and Calder winner in his only season in the league, a couple of my part time ringers in Kyrou and Bartlett. Shock is in net for me, and is IMO a top 3 or 4 option there this season. I made a trade following the draft to fix my team as I had too many RWs, both Bartlett, Kyrou and McLucas all had that as their position, and only Bartlett had any other position willing to play. So I had to move on from someone. I traded for Barzal and Agent and out went Kyrou and Bartlett. Now I have my LW situation solved. Mastershotgun and Blueliner will battle it out for the privilege of being yelled at by Brick as his defensive partner. And both deserved to go for more BOD's then they went for to me. #3. Surpriseme22 Donnywood/surpriseme - YoungBuffalo88 - DomSilva/surpriseme Bluelineking - Pogs Scorchpelt Bench: Feenixrising To the surprise of no one surpriseme got his boy Pogs again, even if he is playing RD this season instead of C. To the surprise of everyone surpriseme went after Dom Silva with RW only has his willing positions. Surpriseme has been in this league for 9 or 10 seasons now. He has 284 games at RW, and 13 at LW, with no games played at any other position. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out when dom is in the lineup. But overall the roster is talented. BLK was one of the 2 best defensmen in the draft, and while Pogs isn't a defensemen normally you know he can move the puck well, read plays, and knows the system of this team. This is probably the best defense in the league. Youngbuffalo was one of the better centers in this draft, he plays positionally very well, is also familiar with surpriseme's system as he played for him last season on defense, but he's struggled to score in this league. He's got a lot of talent around him this season and should be in a position to show off that hes more than just a defensive guy. The weakness as it currently stands is goaltending. Scorchpelt is coming off of probably his best season to date, but he still needs to improve in some areas. This is probably the best team he has ever been behind, he just needs to keep his guys in games and he should be in for another career season. #4. Powerkill sbdr - Barrett/Powerkill - Suneedee Yeti - Quantum/Gunny Theeclumsyninja Bench: none This team has an awful lot of talented players. But it has some issues. First off, sbdr, suneedee, and yeti, all are normally LWs. I am not as familiar with sbdr, so I don't know if it's him that will move over to RW or sunee but one of them will have to do it and will be out of their normal position. Yeti will almost assuredly be at LD all season for this team, and its been a long time since he has played that consistently here. You have to go back to season 5 on Shock's Darkhorse team that missed the playoffs. Gunny will fill in at RD for game 1s when Barrett cannot play, and Powerkill will be in at Center. Then I'm assuming Quantum will drop himself back down to RD and put Barrett in at C for games 2 and 3. You can't deny the talent of this team, but I'm worried about how everything fits together, and not having Barrett for warmups and game one then making the switch mid series is tougher than what it appears. Finally Theeclumsyninja is coming off a belt winning season where he saw a chance to be the teams top goaltender and lost out to clancy in the playoffs. He'll need to go back to his season 12 ways with the Turrible Turds to justify his BOD # and really give this team a chance to compete. I worry about this teams defense, especially in game ones but really just overall. Powerkill will have to be lights out both at center when hes there and be the anchor on RD for games 2 and 3. #5. Ian The Berean Ian - Dmart/Croydon - Sober Legion - Ya Dunn Know/Quantanium wolfmaster00 Bench: Pounders Ian went out and got two of the best players in the draft in Dmart and CroydonKnight. They are both part time so they will split time in the lineup. I think Ian likely plays LW here all season, and has Dmart who traditionally has been a RW during his time in 239 play Center. It makes the lineup change less from series to series, plus Dan has really always been a great asset in the defensive part of the game. Sober has had some excellent seasons at forward in his career in 239 and he'll need to have another one to give this team a shot. Ian primarily has played defense since his time here started in 239 but over the last couple of seasons has found himself on forward more and more. He's put two really talented players on his line, he has an opportunity to learn from these guys and grow into a better player. Take advantage of it and step up for your team. Legion an underrated defensemen in this league. He needs to play within himself though, no fuller-flybys please. And Dunn and Quantanium are both really solid defenders as well that will be splitting time on RD for them. Wolfmaster is a really good goalie and has been for sometime, he may need to be the differencemaker on this team but will have a chance to shine. #6 Magilla BBX - himynamesed - DanglezHD Magilla - Kaberle/Collonelli Derekgnr Bench: yorktown Mags was one of the captains that struggled to get a goalie late. He has a really good one in Derek, but obviously he would love to play him at defense as he would instantly be the best defensemen on this team as well. BBX and Danglez will be good for him. I'm just worried about team defense on this team. ed is an underrated center who can win faceoffs and contribute defensively but I don't think he's going to give very much offensively. This team is going to be reliant on BBX and Danglez to create all the chances. And is going to need Derek to bail them out when chances come the other way. #7. That 1 Odd Guy Amazing Viper - Phinny - Kyrou/Bartlett Odd guy - Johnny Blaze Epik Bench: Pens58fan Odd was the odd man out in the goalie sweepstakes. He obviously intended on playing epik at RD this season and its going to hurt that he wasn't able to pick up another option at G. Epik isn't a bad goalie but this team would immediately be more of a playoff contender than a bubble team if he were at D instead of G. The forwards are good. Odd is a solid player at defense. I just think this team will struggle to mesh and play sound defensive hockey. #8 Young Kelch Swizzy - Mr Anderson/Marine Mike - Monstar Jay Young Kelch - Duff McGriff sniper0270 Bench: none Kelchy went out and got a couple of really talented forwards to surround himself with. Monstar Jay and Swizzy are both great pieces and will do well for him. Mr Anderson is part time, when hes in I think this line will click really well. When hes out, Mr. Seven Toes himself will be coming in at Center to try to fill the gap and I'm not sure hes up to the task of doing so. On defense Kelch will be playing with Duff McGriff. I don't know him at all. If hes a stud this team will be much higher, but I don't know anything about him and I'm worried about how the defense on this team will look. Sniper will have to be snipercripps I think for this team to go anywhere. #9 SirPuffinton420 Pens71fan - sirpuffinton - lubeoptional/viralnightwing Kdogpa - GiJoeDestro BCripps Puffinton grabbed Bcripps for a lot of money, and hes going to have to do some heavy lifting for this team. I think Puffinton went out wanting to grab his friends to play with in the draft to his detriment. I'm not sure this forward lineup has what it takes to succeed. His defense is great. Kdog is a more offensive d man, and joe is a stalwart defensively with his massive 6'9 enforcer build, although he will be forced to play his off hand. I WILL update these power rankings weekly. Just with much less in depth descriptions from here out. Look forward to seeing the salt.
